The Public Policy and Education workgroup focuses on federal, state and local policy initiatives as they impact the broader ECE community in Long Beach. It monitors state and federal legislation and guides the development of recommended positions for the ECE Committee as needed and as appropriate, as well as oversees activities to act upon those recommended positions. Members of the workgroup maintain regular contact with local elected officials and other policy makers. The workgroup also acts as a catalyst for parent leadership development and mobilization. The workgroup is also responsible for the production of annual reports on the state of ECE in Long Beach.
Past projects include: Town Hall convening around 2012 election issues pertaining to early education; facilitation of local input session for the California Comprehensive Early Learning Plan (CCELP); and creation and implementation of Parents as Leaders (PALS), a parent engagement and leadership academy, in central and north Long Beach.
